2012 article

2012 Story
The way I will approach this story is by giving the facts that there is no clear evidence that the world will end on the year 2012, but people think that it can end because of what the media shows us, with all the end of the world movies, people are not very informed and so they just go on what they see on the movies, etc. instead of researching about it and finding out the truth, I will ask people what they think of 2012 and then I will ask them why they think that to get their feedback on where they get those I ideas, I want to emphasize the effect the media has on people.

2012 what does it mean?

The year 2012 has a different meaning to everyone to some it means doomsday, to others the beginning of a new era and to the rest it will be just another ordinary year.
So what should one believe? That you can decide on your own.
According to: “The Daily Sundial” people should not be worrying about what their faith will be in 2012, they think that we should take these 2012 predictions as a weather forecast.
According to: “NASA” 2012 is not the end of the world it is however just another winter solstice.
According to: www.2012contact.com Doomsday is near and people need to be prepared for it, there might be a way for you and your loved ones to be saved, and you can purchase a book that tells you how you can be prepared.
According to: ABC News people are going crazy getting boom shelters in order to be protected from nuclear radiations in 2012.
I will interview people to find out what they think about 2012, to get to the bottom of this, is it all just a hoax to scare people or is it the real thing.

A Day In The Life Of a SWC Campus Officer

A Day In The Life Of a SWC Campus Officer

By Mayra T. Niebla
First Amendment Staff Writter
Southwestern College services about 19,000 students every year, with such a big population there needs to be security in order to maintain order.
Ricardo Suarez has been working as a police officer in the Southwestern College campus for four years. Officer Suarez works hard to maintain a safe environment for students, staff, and guests at the Southwestern College campus. On the regular basis Officer Suarez  pulls zero to ten people over. When Officer Suarez pulls someone over he considers the circumstances, he goes by two ideals, the spirit of the law and letter of the law, “It depends on the situation, we are not required to give a ticket” Officer Suarez said. When asked about Oscar Torres a former Southwestern College student that made death threats to a professor Officer Suarez gave no comment. Instead he explained what action officers take in a situation of that matter, “We open a case, identify the student, run it through our system, check if they have priors...” Officer Suarez said. His interest on becoming a police officer came from taking criminal justice classes on campus. Officer Suarez very much enjoys his job.

A day in the life of a SWC campus police officer.. questions for interview

On tuesday I will be interviewing Officer Ricardo Suarez, Sergeant Robert Sanchez assigned him to be interviewed by me.
Some of the questions I will be asking Officer Suarez are:
What is your name?
How long have you been working at  Southwestern College?
When did you decide to be a police officer?
Why did you choose to work at Southwestern College?
How many officers do you work with?
Have you ever had to shoot anyone because they did not comply?
About how many people do you regularly pull over in a day?
About how many people get tickets when you pull them over in the daily basis?
What kind of tickets do you give out mostly?
In September 2010 Oscar Torres a student threatened to shoot a teacher, what action did the campus police take?
Have there been any serious car crashes on campus?
Do you enjoy working here?
Tell me about a memorable experience you’ve had working here?
and more...
These are some of the questions I would ask the student:
Why did you get pulled over?
What was your reaction?
How did the police officer act?
Have you ever gotten pulled over in campus before?
Did you get a ticket?
Do you think the campus police is doing a good job?
and more..
I am still thinking of other questions to ask because I do not want to miss out on any of the juicy details. I will practice before I interview Officer Suarez because I am very nervous.

A day in the life of a SWC campus police officer.. interview with Lisbeth Niebla

Interview: I got stopped by a SWC cop
Interviewer: Mayra Niebla
Interviewee: Lisbeth Niebla

Me: “Why did you get stopped by the police Officer?”
Elisabeth: “I was going the wrong way in the parking lot, even though I saw the Do not enter wrong way sign I didn’t care because I didn’t think I was going to get caught.”
Me: “And what happened?”
“I did get caught. At first when I started hearing the sirens and I didn’t stop because I didn’t think that it was for me. I switched lanes because the policeman was behind me and I thought he was after someone else, until he used his speaker to tell me to stop, it was so embarrassing because people I knew where passing by starring, it was right at the school exit everybody could see me.”
Me: “What did you do?”
Lisbeth: “I didn’t resist and I pulled over like a good citizen, as soon as I saw the cop opening his car door I started crying uncontrollably I thought about what my parents would say and the amount I would have to pay and if that would end up in my record, I tried to stop crying but I just couldn’t. Before I realized the cop was next to my car window and he asked me to roll the window down, he told me to give him my license and registration and so I did as instructed. Then he asked me if I knew why I was getting pulled over, I lied and said no I asked him why. I started thinking that maybe he didn’t know and was pulling me over for some other thing.
Then he told me I was getting pulled over because I went through a do not enter sign, I lied again and I told him I did not read the sign and thought it was just a yield sign so I yield. The police officer asked me why I was crying, I told him that my parents where very strict and they would get really mad, hoping that the police officer would feel bad for me.  I guess my tears paid off because the police officer let me off with a warning and told me that my windows where very tinted and I should take the tint off, I told him I would and thanked him.”
Me: “What did you learned from this experience?”
Elisabeth: “I will always respect the stop, do not enter, yield, etc. signs at school, because now I know that you may never know when a cop may be near (laughs).”
Me: “Do you think the cops at Southwestern College are doing a good job?”
Lisbeth: “I really think they are doing a great job, even though I was upset that I got stopped, it’s good that they are always on the look out because some people are always on their phones, or not respecting the traffic signs and well that way they learn their lesson, also I heard that a long time ago in this school some students were racing and one of them hit a mom with her kids, she was crossing the street, she died and one of her kids also, it was very unfortunate, so it’s nice to feel like there are cops setting order on campus”

New York Congressman Resigns Over E-Mails

There are no secrets online. The internet is very helpful these days you can find everything, the problem with it is that there is no privacy, people have to be really careful with what they put out there because anyone can find it.  Especially if you are a celebrity or politician, people are watching your every move because they want to know more about you. Unfortunately Representative Christopher Lee apparently did not get the memo. What is wrong with all these politicians and celebrities, we keep hearing more and more about people cheating on their spouse, and doing things they are not supposed to be doing. People look up to these people, and we just keep getting more and more disappointed, they should use the power that they have for good. Lee made a good decision by resigning because he was going to get a lot of dirt from this.
I think that this story is news worthy because it shows us that politicians are not perfect and that they also make mistakes, it is unfortunate that he was cheating on his wife.
Also even though he cheated on his wife it does not mean that he is a bad politician, so people need to put a focus on his work side instead of his personal side. Unfortunately people forget about the good things people do but they never forget about the mistakes they have made.

Girl Testifies Against Music Teacher She Says Molested Her

Most parents are very protective of their children, they want to know where they are, who they are with, who their friends are, etc. This is not only to be nosy, it’s because they want to know more about them and make sure that their child is safe wherever they are. Unfortunately there are some sick people out there, but nobody thinks that it could be someone that you know very well. It is very sad. In the story that I chose a music teacher was apparently molesting his students. The parents were probably in shock to find out about this specially since he was a close family friend who they thought they could trust in. That is why it is very important for parents to keep a close eye on everyone that is around their children, talk to their kids so that they know what to do if they were ever in this unfortunate situation, it is essential to have good communication, so that the child feels comfortable enough to inform their parents about it. Reading this story made my skin crawl, it made me think of how this is affecting the girls, they will probably have trust issues growing up, and other issues thanks to this psycho. How can he do this to these girls, he should have gone to a psychiatrist to get help. These girls did nothing to him. I hope justice is served and that the molester spends the rest of his life in prison, thinking about how he has robbed these girls of their purity.
This story is news worthy no doubt it definitely brings awareness to families everywhere to be careful of who they bring around their children, not only that but to know where their children are at all times.
